Kalamos
38º37’.41N – 20º55′.97E
The village of Kalamos and the harbour are located on the east side of the same island. Katabatic winds regularly occur here in the afternoon and sometimes continue all night. The anchorage areas are on lee shore and have moderate anchorage soil. The quays have been drastically expanded, both along the seaside and the village side. There is a supermarket with modest stock near the port. The bakery is located in the upper village, as well as the post office. This walk is definitely worth the time and effort. Drinking water is available at the tap which can be found next to the supermarket, if necessary use a hose from the only restaurant in town. During the winter months the village is inhabited by 90 people at most. Many travel to larger Greek cities such as Patras and Athens, or to the United States to earn money for the summer months on Kalamos. The fishermen may come across somewhat cold, but if you respect them, you will see that they are always helpful.
