The capital of Corfu is an international town with style. A mix of Venetian, French, British and Greek architectural styles adds to the charm of the town. The large, lively centre is full of narrow streets, stairways and plazas with souvenir shops and a range of luxurious shops. The city has parks, avenues with old villas, a vast port area and cluttered suburbs. The city has several ports of which the private yacht club NAOK to the south of the city is the most suitable for mooring (payment required). This port is beautifully located beneath the old fort and is within walking distance of the centre.
Sailing towards this area
The island of Nisos Vidho which lies just off the coast of the city is easily recognisable from a significant distance. The old fort (Venetian citadel) on the cape stretching out over the bay is a striking landmark. Beware of the many ferries that sail between Kerkyra and Igoumenitsa, a busy port on the mainland. When you pass the city from the north, you must cross right through these ferries’ route. The ferries travel at high speeds and will not deviate from their course!
